Museum visits – How could students benefit from museum visits?
Connecting museums with students learning is not an easy task. Teachers should prepare students before their visit to museums. Only by this way students will gain new knowledge and skills.
Athens must-see museums for students
– Acropolis museum:
one of the top museums in the world
– National Archaelogical museum:
hosts a rich collection of exhibits from Geometric period, Archaic period and Classical period and not only
– Museum of Cycladic Art:
includes a rich collection of Cycladic Art
– Athens War Museum:
promotes military history of Greece
– Byzantine and Christianity Museum:
includes a collection of icons, paintings and artifacts of Byzatine heritage
-Museum mof Ancient Greek Technology
hosts instruments and tools of Ancient Greek naval, hydraulic, music technology and computing
What should teachers do before students visit to the museum?
Some ideas are as follows:
1/ present students the tour they will follow inside the museum
2/ describe the basic exhibits they will find
3/ set clear goals for their visit
4/ prepare follow-up activities
5/ inform students that they will be given some time for free exploration in the museum
How could students get attention to a museum exhibition? Through some good preparation on behalf of the teachers, museums visits could be more exciting.
