Lazarakia
Lazarakia is a special type of bread women used to make for the Lazarus celebration.
The shape of “Lazarakia” is similar to the portrait of Lazarus in the icons of the church. The Orthodox Christians still cook “Lazarakia” in memory of the resurrection of Lazarus. The Lazarus Saturday is the Saturday before the Holy Week.
The recipe is easy and the taste of lazarakia is really pleasant!
Inside the dough, they used to put honey, walnuts or raisins
Ingredients
αλεύρι = 1 kilo of wheat flour
σταφίδες = 1 tea cup of raisins
ζάχαρη = 4 spoonfuls of sugar
λάδι καλαμποκιού = half tea cup of corn oil
μαστίχα = 1 teaspoon of mastic
μοσχοκάρυδο ή σουσάμι = some nutmegs and some sesame
