When do the Greek Orthodox celebrate the Tranfiguration of Lord?

 

On August 6th, the Greek Orthodox church celebrates the Transfiguration of Lord. The Metamorphis took place on the Mount Tavor. Metamorphosis in the Greek language is as follows: μεταμόρφωση < μετά + μορφή.

 

Why is this celebration so important?

 

Jesus Christ appeared His divine glory to His disciples before he had risen from the Dead. On August 6, Christ shone with divine light on the Mount Tabor.

Who were present to Jesus glorious appearance?

Jesus Christ appeared in His everlasting light before three Apostles:

Peter, James and Jason. His face was shining and his garments reflecting white bright light. Moreover, Moses and Elijah/Ilias appeared with Jesus Christ. During Jesus metamorphosis, a bright cloud appeared as a symbol of the Lord’s Divine presence. This was the symbol of the glory of God.

Traditions related to the name of the Transfiguration of Lord

During the church service, the Orthodox Christians bring to church the first grapes of their harvest. In all the churches, there are a lot of big baskets with fresh grapes. Why? Priests bless the grapes to thank the Lord. Furthermore, this blessing is related the spiritual growth of the fruits.
