Sculpture and marble of Tinos
Tinos is the third biggest island of Cyclades. It has a long tradition in sculpture and marble. For instance, Giannoulis Chalepas, Dimitris Filippotis and Petros Marmarinos are well-known Tinian sculptors. Pyrgos is the village where tourists can admire squares, fountains, houses made of marble. Moreover, the village has a very good school of Marble Art as well as the Marble Art museum. Pyrgos is in the list of the Cultural Heritage of Humanity of UNESCO.
Traditional food and sweets
Tinos has a lot of villages with unique landscapes. Dyo choria, Arnados, Falatados, Kardiani are all mountainous villages ideal for relaxing holidays. Visitors can taste traditional local dishes that are indeed delicious. Analati, kopanisti, tiniako are local cheeses. Louza, syglino and wild rabbit in the casserole with herbs are meat dishes you should taste. Foods made by the local artichoke are really tasty. Tinos is famous for the raki drink and local wines, so don’t miss to try them when you visit the island. Amigdalota, xerotigana, pastelia are sweets you can find in all the Tinian patisserie shops. Their taste is more than pleasant.
Panagia Megalohari
Tinos is also known for the religious tourism. There is a great number of churches but the most well-known is the church of Panagia Megalohari in Chora, near the port. People from many places come to the island to pray in front of the Holy Icon of Panagia. The church is very impressive made of marble. White marble stairs lead pilgrims to the main building.
Windsurfing and trekking on the island of Tinos
If you like windsurfing, ‘Kolimpithres’ is the name of the most famous beach. Most days of the summer the island is windy, so windsurfers will love this beach. As for trekking enthusiasts, you will explore a lot of paths. Tinos has hiking routes that it is worth to discover and enjoy the authentic mountainous Cycladic landscapes of the island.
