Lazarakia

Lazarakia is a special type of bread women used to make for the Lazarus celebration.

The shape of “Lazarakia” is similar to the portrait of Lazarus in the icons of the church. The Orthodox Christians still cook “Lazarakia” in memory of the resurrection of Lazarus. The Lazarus Saturday is the Saturday before the Holy Week.

The recipe is easy and the taste of lazarakia is really pleasant!

Inside the dough, they used to put honey, walnuts or raisins

 

Ingredients

 

αλεύρι = 1 kilo of wheat flour


σταφίδες = 1 tea cup of raisins


ζάχαρη = 4 spoonfuls of sugar


λάδι καλαμποκιού = half tea cup of corn oil


μαστίχα = 1 teaspoon of mastic


μοσχοκάρυδο ή σουσάμι = some nutmegs and some sesame

Easter cookies – Τα κουλούρια του Πάσχα

 

Easter koulouria are fluffy cookies with butter flavor and orange smell.  All the housewives make these tasty cookies, which are alternatively named ‘yalokouloura’.It is worth trying to make them. If you accompany them with Greek coffee or milk, the taste will be even greater.

Ingredients

αλεύρι = 3 to 4 cups of flour 

λάδι = 1 cup of oil 

ζάχαρη = half cup sugar

πορτοκάλι = half cup of orange juice

μπέικιν πάουντερ = baking powder

γάλα = half cup of milk

αβγά = eggs

Experiment yourselves with simple ingredients! Both recipes are fast.
