Palm Sunday
Palm Sunday is one of the most significant days for the Orthodoc Christians. This day symbolizes the victory of Jesus, seven days before his Passions. Palm Sunday is also the end of the Great Lent and the beginning of the Holy Week.
The Orthodox Christians celebrate this day with great preparations.
What do exactly the Christians Orthodox celebrate?
Jesus entered Jerusalem and the crowd welcomed him. He wore simple clothes and rode a donkey. Jesus came into Jerusalem to save people through his sufferings and death.
How did people welcome Jesus to Jerusalem?
People started waving branches of palm trees to express their respect to Jesus.They shouted “Hosanna” and started singing and dancing. “Hossana” means “Jesus, save” us”. It was a big shout of praise.
Why branches of palm trees?
The branches symbolize Jesus identity: He is the King, the Savior. He is always present to our lives. Nowadays, the worshippers make crosses out of palm leaves and decorate the churches. They also keep them in their homes with their icons.
