What is Ellinomatheia?
Ellinomatheia is recognized for a wide range of purposes, related to education and employment, by many institutions in Europe, Greece, the USA, as well as all around the globe. The certification covers reading, listening, speaking, and writing skills and is issued by the Greek Language Centre, under the Ministry of Education in Greece.
Is the certificate recognized?
Successful candidates who hold the Ellinomatheia certification are globally recognized for their proficiency in the Greek language. The certification can be used for studies at all Greek universities, in the United States, and in Europe.
Why participate in the Ellinomatheia exams?
Because the certificate you will obtain, as a candidates, is the only official title worldwide that proves your attainment in the Greek language.
What are the levels of Ellinomatheia exams?
A1 for kids, Α1 for teenagers and adults, A2, B1, B2, Γ1, Γ2.
You can submit for the level that suits your language abilities.
A1 and A2 exams are for Beginners who have attended Greek lessons for at least 2 years. B1 exam is for intermediates level. Γ1 and Γ2 exams are demanding and the certification does proves. That the candidates communicate in Greek such as native speakers.
Where can candidates take the exams?
There are a lot of centres in all the big cities of Greece and worldwide for Ellinomatheia Exams. In Athens the official centre is the Hellenic American Union. Candidates should submit for the Ellinomatheia exams before the deadline so as to take part in the written and oral exams.
When do the exams take place?
The Ellinomatheia examination is held in the middle of May, in over 160 examination centers around the world. The date of the exams is the same for all examination centers, and the results are announced via personal email to all the candidates in July. WHat about the fees & applications?
Your online applications can be completed and paid from the first days of February until mid-March. The fees are announced by the Center for the Greek Language and change according to the examination level.

The Structure of the Ellinomatheia Examination
Levels A1, A2 & B1 cover four language skills. All candidates of Ellinomatheia are examined in reading, listening, speaking, and writing.
Levels B2, C1 & C2 cover reading, listening, speaking, and writing, as well as the use of language, with a special focus on vocabulary, syntax, and morphology.
LEVEL A1
Students will learn to use Greek in everyday situations and engage in basic conversation.
LEVEL A2
Students will learn about Greek civilization and history and will develop fluency in the Greek language.
LEVEL B1
Students will learn to interact and communicate in more formal situations, understand texts, and write small paragraphs.
LEVEL B2
Students will be able to communicate with native speakers and speak with clarity on different topics. They will have the ability to understand more advanced conversations, read, and express themselves in more complex discussions. Finally, they will become even more familiar with Greek culture.
LEVEL C1
Students will learn to spontaneously express themselves and use Greek more effectively for professional, social, and academic purposes. Additionally, they will be able to understand and write longer and more complex texts.
LEVEL C2
Students will be able to express themselves with precision and spontaneity, as well as to understand anything spoken or written. Moreover, they will comprehend any academic lecture, literature, and articles.
